I started my career straight out of Agricultural College as a chemical rep based in Tamworth and working from the coast to Bourke and Mudgee to Inverell. After a year I moved to Sydney and started a contract weed control business with the two people I had worked for as a rep.

This business kick started my passion for weed management in its many and various forms.

My partners decided to sell out so I continued working for the new owner where I had the chance to broaden my horizons into the commercial and domestic pest control industry. As well as this I expanded the business to include tree lopping and maintenance and also built a high rail spray unit to carry out weed control on rail tracks for State Rail.

When I moved on the business employed over 50 people all over the state, mainly in tree maintenance, and was eventually sold to an American company - Asplund, who wanted to establish a presence in Australia.

I then moved to Eagle Environmental Services where I was employed as the Vegetation Manager to establish their Vegetation Management Division. It was here that I gained my qualifications as a Pest Control Operator and learnt much about the pest control industry and in particular commercial pest control and bird management. I also started to develop an interest in the training industry because I thought the weed management industry was lacking in this area, so I started to gain my qualifications in the various aspects of training. The end of my time at Eagle also saw me elected as the President of the Weed Society of NSW for 2 years

At this time I decided to go into partnership with a business associate who owned Jeff Martin Property Maintenance Pty Ltd. We formed a new business called Jeff Martin Weed & Pest Management Pty Ltd and thus started my dream of establishing a company that specialised in all aspects of Urban Weed Management. During this time I further expanded my experience into the commercial property maintenance industry. Two years later I bought out my partner and continued operating the company under the new name of Sydney Weed & Pest Management Pty Ltd.

Over the last 14 years I have further expanded the business to include many specialty weed management services including aquatic weed management using boats, canoes, argos and hovercraft, specialty turf weed management using, quad bikes, 4WD Polaris ATV, environmentally friendly Wickwiper, aerators, fertiliser spreaders, turf rollers and fully covered driftproof boomsprays.

In 2001 myself and one of my employees attended an Aquatic Weed Short Course at the University of Florida and gained certification as a specialist Aquatic Weed Control Operator. My aim in doing this was to be able to provide the most professional aquatic weed management services to the organisations I work with as well as broaden my own knowledge in the area of aquatic weed management.

In 2002 I bought into a commercial potted colour nursery where I spent 12 months learning about the wholesale nursery industry and aspects of weed and pest management in the nursery practice before I decided to move on from here and in 2003 start a specialised Feral Animal Control business.

Sydney Feral Animal Control evolved from here to fill the void that I thought the metropolitan area had in the way of professional feral animal management services.

I have also spent more time training, in my capacity as a private Chemical Safety Training Provider e,g, Smarttrain and over the last 14 years I have provided over 500 Chemical Safety Training, Chainsaw, Machinery Hygiene, Bird Management and Pest Control training courses with the majority of participants coming form local government and golf courses and the prst control industries.

In June of 2004 I was approached by Agserv Pty Ltd and asked if I wanted to buy their contracting division. Agserv had previously been the largest contract weed control company in Sydney so by taking over their business (July 1) and combining it with mine I now have the largest contract weed control company in the Sydney and outer metropolitan area.
